I am at my wits end. Our 6 month old pup needs to be entertained every minute of the day. He has a 1 1/2 hour walk in the morning and we play ball with him in the evening. He has bones during the day plus lots of toys. When we put him in the ex pen or zwinger in the house, he cries and cries constantly even though he can see and hear us. I tell him "yuck" but it doesn't seem to help. I stuff kongs and give him bully sticks too. I love him but it is wearing me out. I have a large family as well. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I have a 5 month old pup and I have an exercise question for you experts that have had dogs that got a great hip rating.
We take our boy on a 1/2 mile walk in the morning which he is not too thrilled about. We have recently started kicking volleyballs (4) in a field for hime to run around and chase and although he seems to like it, he does become tired but I am really worried about all the running and stopping short. He does not jump for any of the balls as we keep them low.
I would appreciate hearing from any of you pros on whether or not you think this ball chasing at 5 months is ok or not.
I have a socializing question. Soon I will be getting my pup and I have been told that I should socialize her daily with the cattle we have (for a short while each day). If she is like puppies we have had in the past, she will be eating cattle poop. Is there any harm that she might get parvo? I was told to start the introductions on the first day she is home. Any opinions? Thanks
I will be bringing home a puppy in a week and would very much appreciate the advice of all you experienced breeders and owners of German shepherd dogs.
I purchased many Leerburg tapes and find them very informative and interesting. Ed Frawley insists that a pup must be subject to total isolation when it goes home with the new owner. It does have walks and meals in the crate, but she should be allowed to scream and bark until she is submissive and calm.
I would love an attentive pup that loves to learn but I don't know if my heart can take it. He says it is for a short period of time, one day to three weeks.
Has anyone an opinion on this? I have had wild and crazy dogs that were unmanageable in the past. Might this be a better beginning for a pup? This will be the best bred dog I have ever had and I am so hopeful and don't want to make a mistake.
