My name is Matt Payne. I wanted your advice on e collars. I have a 9 month old high drive wonderful WL GSD. I have so far been doing food driven training , some tug for obedience. Basically luring him with this and he is quite good. I would like to fade out the food and use an e collar. My plan is to buy the new dogcart 1900s. First , is using the e cooler at this stage ok ? I would follow your protocol on the site. Without the food he won't always respond to my commands. Any thoughts? Thank you!
Lykoz -Once they commit to do the deed... Once they already break in, pull out a weapon, the best advice is to look away from them and do as they say... You have a better chance at survival.
LouCastle - FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
Do you often fight armed assailants with your bare hands when they break in?... As someone heavily involved in Martial Arts over the years... I wonder how you intend on disarming them and not getting shot? How can you with a conscience give such TERRIBLE advice to unarmed/untrained citizens...? Even with years of training, fighting an armed assailant means more than likely you will get shot, stabbed and likely killed...
Especially hiding behind the fact that you have been an officer for decades...
You have a huge social responsibility to give CORRECT advice
I liked your post about not using physical dominance but rather having a stature and personality of dominance.
My dog who is about 6 months, chases cats, stalks them, and so far seems to be just wanting to roughly play- i am worried that she will actually hurt them. Do you have any good ideas on how i should train her to leave them alone?
You're quite welcome. I wanted to say something to that poster but I lacked the technical expertise to back up any argument. You did a great job explaining your opinions on the alpha roll as a training technique.
