We live out in the county so a lot of dogs get dumped at our property. This little girl showed up about 6 weeks ago. One day she was on our porch and had been shot. We took her to the vet and got her fixed up and got her shots. We decided we would keep her. Named her Sammy. Today I took her in to the vet to get fixed and got a call from the vet that after they gave her anesthesia and shaved her, she had a scar consistent with already having been fixed. Now I am concerned she is someone's lost baby. I had called the local shelter when I found her, but didn't call surrounding shelters. I have recently looked on line, but thought I would post here and see if there were any other places I might look, inquire about her.

You might take her to a local shelter and have them scan her for chips - if they are equipped to do so. I read another thread on here that someone found a stray and was trying to determine if she had been fixed. I can't remember if they took her to a vet or a shelter, but she was chipped (and fixed) and they were able to return her to her owner.

I would contact the other shelters to see if anyone has reported a lost dog fitting her description and while she is at the vets have them check for a micro chip. If someone is searching for their beloved pet they would have contacted shelters, police and vet clinics looking for their baby...we adopted a little boy that was wandering around our town and felt that his owner would surface and reclaim him...but what I think happened was he was dumped.....I hope Sammy gets to stay with you...to arrive hurt and have you take her in was so kind...

This little girl seems to have touched my heart...If you are still concerned that she might have had previous owners I would check in periodically with the shelters in your area bu I wouldn't volunteer much information. Let the shelter or owners give the needed information to you. I would be concerned as to why she was running free with a gun shot wound. I know that accidents happen but she seems to be safe and happy now with you and that is GREAT...after a couple of months I would stop checking and just enjoy this sweet girl....THANK YOU for taking her in and helping her.
