Lost Eva for four hours in late 2009 in those back-to-back snowstroms we had here in N. Virginia. Went out for the last walk and to play in the two feet of snow. She was off-leash being late night and the area shut down from the snow. There was easily two feet of snow, though she woudn't venture far into it, she hopped through it like a rabbitl We got to the area where she chases deer off-leash on the spring and I let her venture in about 30 feet, figuring she wouldn't dig the deep snow and come back out but she picked up a trail and/or scent and was gone. I called her forever, went back home and got my snow pants on and then tried to follow her trail. Good luck there! Even in deep snow, it disappears, The deer went in all directions and who knows which one she followed. After four hours of deep snow trudging and another two feet of snow coming, calling until hoarse, and nearly giving up thinking she was mired in snow or had been clubbed by a deer, (I would have never given up until I found her, dead or alive) I looked out across a huge, white snow field and saw this tiny thing hopping through the deep snow and heading for the black ribbon of a creek cutting through the field. She ran up this creek for a hundred yards then headed straight for my landcruiser. She jumped in the tailgate without breaking stride and after the short drive home I proceeded to remove nearly 20 softball-sized chunks of snow from her belly hair.
She was very thankful! Must have felt like 10x loaded teats. Only I thought she was lost, she was on an adventure!
