A crash of this magnitude... Apollo may be injured. I hope they've got trackers out there because he may not have a lot of time.
Just to see the name Apollo and learn of this tragedy is a knife to my heart this morning. A prayer for Apollo this morning - hold on buddy, help is coming. |

This is an update as of 4/17...
Apollo, apparently uninjured, was seen on Mountain Road Monday morning by firefighters, Freedom Township Assistant Police Chief Terry Dellinger said. The dog was spotted again Wednesday night about 500 yards from the crash site but went back into a wooded area, Dellinger said. A helicopter flew over the area Thursday while family, friends and other volunteers continued a ground search. People with information about the dog have been asked to call Hollidaysburg State Police Trooper Kenneth Benton at 696-6100 or Mount Nittany United Methodist Church at 237-3549. Hopefully they will find him soon!

Just an fyi for anyone also following this story - The Altoona Mirror (www.altoonamirror.com) is keeping tabs on the search for Apollo with most recent update on the 17th.
At least he is still on his feet, or so it appears. |

Hooray! Safe with only minor injuries.
Now maybe the family will have some comfort having Apollo home. R.I.P. Sgt. Woodruff. EAST FREEDOM - A missing German shepherd was found relatively unharmed Monday morning. Apollo, a dog belonging to Sgt. Hamilton Taylor Woodruff, 23, of State College, who crashed off Interstate 99 onto Mountain Road in Freedom Township and died last week, was caught about 10 a.m. in one of the humane dog traps set out for him, Trooper Jeff Petucci of the Hollidaysburg state police barracks said. Apollo had been missing for a week and was spotted several times, but searchers were unable to catch him until Monday. Mount Nittany United Methodist Church Intergenerational Pastor Shane Landherr said he spoke with the Woodruff family. "They're so elated to be reunited with the dog," he said. "We've just been so amazed for the overwhelming support from the community." Woodruff's father, Howard, is a pastor at the church. Landherr said people from as far away as Maryland turned out to search for the missing dog. Searchers found Apollo inside a kennel trap Monday morning, a week after he survived the crash that claimed his owner's life, he said. Apollo had "some scratches and scuffs" on his paws and a "slight sprain in one of his hind legs," but no serious injuries, Landherr said. Central Region Emergency Strike Team spokesman Clifford Neal said the traps used to catch Apollo are humane and set up not to hurt the animal. |
