My husband & I recently adopted a male German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd mix. Cooper is 5 months old, so smart, sweet and gorgeous. We've always had female Golden Retrievers so this is a new experience. Is it OK for me to belong to this group even if he isn't a purebred GSD? From what I've read here the tips from everyone will come in handy. The trainers we've worked with definitely treat him in the manner appropriate for the breed blend, but say they really see the GSD as more prevalent. I'll try to upload a picture when I figure out how. :wink2:
Anyway, hello from me and from Cooper! :greet::greet:
This forum is a great alternative to the general dog forums that claim they are 'force free' and will verbally assault you if you suggest doing anything your dog may not like.
Dogs are dogs, the advice given on here often applies to all breeds of dog.
Yes, the shepherd / herding types can have much in common unlike other breeds or types of breeds such as terriers which can be very different. A dog is not just another dog!
& maybe my little coconut hound will feel a little less lonely by half. Welcome aboard, I love gsd's & aussies are super cool. The folks here are fantastic.
Aussies are wonderful dogs. My one friend has them and I really enjoy being around them. Crazy, crazy ball drive.
Another friend had a GSD/Aussie mix and he looked exactly like a GSD and lived to be 15 y/o. Great dog.
Welcome aboard! Can you post pictures of you dog? Shepherd mixes are always interesting to see. We had a Shepherd/hound mix that was the best dog ever growing up.
My boy isn't 100% and I haven't been kicked out (yet).:grin2:
