Hello from Arizona,
I should have introduced myself before posting, I apologize. I am an avid dog lover, but most recently I welcomed male and female GSD to my family. I found this site while looking for ways to cope :help: and it has been a great source of information, thank you.

Here are my toddlers…

Wow nice dogs

Thank you for the welcome! Yes, it is a nut house for sure. I have had my melt down moments, but it gets better every day. Both are from Czech Republic. Female, Sophie, is a little powerhouse. Male, Dutch, is a love bug. I am very lucky to have them. I just hope I can do things right to bring out the best in them.

Aww, such pretty pups!
My Sophie is 4 months and Dutch is 5 months. I did really well for the month I had Dutch by himself. Now that I have both, not so easy! Each cries (loudly) when separated for their one on one time with me. It is so hot here in AZ now, my "free" play time with them together is all in the early morning before work and in the evening after the sun goes down. They play hard, sometime requiring me to step in with "enough". Seems like my female is usually the more aggressive one. Especially when they do a chase. I have a 1/2 acre and when my male runs, she really goes after him. Inside, they are kenneled. I have Dutch trained enough to be off leash inside for periods of time, and he is good with my female Chocolate Lab. Sophie, on the other hand, I am still working on. She is a spaz! I am scouring all the information here and on my breeders site constantly. Leerburg information has helped as well. Toughest part when they are together for free play is getting them to listen to me when they are intent on each other. But they are getting better. At least they **** an ear now when I give commands, haha. Do yours do the chase thing where they crouch like a cat hunting a bird, then take off after each other?
I am anxious to hear how things are going for you and what seems to be working well. Too bad we do not live closer!
I am a single Mom, with 12yr old son. I work full time, but have been able to work from home a lot lately due to circumstances (son in summer school). Very lucky to have a job that is flexible that way.
Once summer is over and I do not have my son to give potty breaks during the day, things will get a little tougher. Not that it isn't tough now : ) I have much more to get a handle on, it is a constant work in progress.
So nice to meet you!

Nice meeting yout too! :) I am a "somewhat" single mom (have a boyfriend so I consider it somewhat) with 3 boys ages 16, 15 and 13. Unfortunately due to shared parenting there is no one at the house with the pups while we are at work so I built kennels outside that are joined but separated to let them get outside during the day. Mine go through the same process of whine and complain during our one on one training but I must say they are getting better about it. One thing I have learned is to take them out and "run" or "fast walk" them before playtime together seems to take some of the gusto out of it. Athena is my aggressor of the two and unfortunately with the size and weight difference she usually wins the initial WWE match that ensues.. Although I must say Eden is getting better at giving back and using her weight to her benefit. I also monitor their playtime closely because of their ears I was warned they could easily break them during play. I have been able to use the come command as a break when they get too rough. I call them back to my sides (works about 85% of the time now on first call sometimes still takes second call) tell them to sit and treat or love up on them like they just saved the world. Hopefully this might help you some with your pups. It is a trying process to train them both at times but when they get it and work together it is awesome to see... Mine crouch for the attack then run full force and barrell over each other sending the other rolling it looks painfull but they take turns doing it and seem to love it.. lol

Holy cow, 3 teenage boys AND 2 GSD pups? You are a warrior : )
I am glad to hear the rough play is quite normal. I always worry about the ears too. They love to put each others faces in their mouths. I will try the fast walk prior to play, they do hang out better when worn down. Sophie tends to be vocal with growls even when chasing her own tail, so it is hard to distinguish when she really means it during play. Next big hurdle is greeting strangers! It is a circus when someone comes to the door.
I divided a large part of my yard for separation when needed, but the extreme heat in the summer is a bear to deal with. Sophie spiked to 104.2 temp when she was outside for 15min while my vet gave shots to Dutch. The vet felt it was mostly due to her stress at being held for vaccination plus the heat, but I have to be very, very careful. My Mother texted me this morning and said there was a kennel somewhere here in AZ that just had 10 dogs die because their air conditioning went out. It is such a problem here.

My2shepherds 06-24-2014 03:45 PM

Oh wow... I am fortunate that I do not have to stress too much over the temps here.. although they have made good use of their baby pool during the heat of the day.. lol Greeting people I am not going to be able to help much with... I have a 14 acre non-working farm and absolutely no neighbors due to being surrounded by state owned land so most introductions the pups have been through tend to be off property on social visits.
