Hi folks! My name is Andy and I joined the forum because I'm working towards adopting a GSD hopefully soon (depending on application approval and when the right match happens.).
Just some background on me:
My family raised and trained GSDs pretty much all of my life. I grew up in Wisconsin and my mom was an active member of the Schutzhund community so I kind of grew up in a whelping box working with puppies.
I've not had a GSD in a long time...my last dog was a rottie but at the time, I wasn't really interested in getting into schutzhund....two step-daughters and a career took precedence...I just didn't have the time to commit to training him. He would have been good..but he enjoyed being a 130 pound lap dog. :)
Anyway, I live in GA and I'm looking towards a couple of rescues, filling out the applications with the hopes to get "pre-approved" so that when a pup/dog becomes available that would be a good match, there's little delay in the process.
I'm also looking at applying for a MWD (recently learned about the breeding program they have at Lackland) but I'm hoping to get lucky and find a pup or a young dog. I'd prefer a pup for the trainability but I'm not going to turn my back on younger dog if the pieces fit right. I've seen it happen before. Call me an optimist.:D
I'm aware that I may not be able to do schutzhund but i still intend to find some sort of job for the dog. Tracking, whatever will suit him or her.
So right now, it's just myself and my wife...kids are grown, out of the house and we have a couple of cats and my youngest daughter's dog..they have an understanding that we've had to enforce and it works well. I did it once, I can do it again.
So that's me. I'll be posting in other threads as things progress.
Great to be here!
Welcome to the forum. Good luck in your search for your next family member. :)
Sounds like you'll provide a wonderful life and home for whatever pooch finds your doorstep.
Best of luck,
I take my hat (if I had one) off to you for adopting. That's very cool.
Me, I'm too impatient!
I'm sure you'll find your mate soon.
Welcome to you. It sounds like whatever dog you get it will have a great active home.
:welcome: Be sure to post photos of the new addition when he/she arrives :)
