Hey guys im Nick. Been active duty military for 10 years now (on july 6th at least). I work in Law enforcement and security. On my 4th deployment right now and once i get back im punching out and calling it quits(story for another day). Anyway, i live in Colorado and love it there, looking to get my first GSD when i get back. Have a bunch of questions, so if any of you vet owners could help out it would be much appreciated!!
Welcome to you and thanks for your service. I too am ex military, got out in 1984. Been deployed as a civilian several times. Tough work and a tough environment much more so for you guys.
What can I say but that you made the best decision ever by wanting a GSD!
When looking for a breeder, make sure that you talk temperament and you get to see the parents. My GSD is Wendy Von der Neuen Welt. Dr. Preiser breeds Schutzhunds! I fell in love with my puppy! What I didn't know was that their bloodline is pure guard dog! Wendy is perfectly trained, but she does not like anyone touching her. She is "on duty" at all times. Her trainer said that it is her character! She did "stare" down 4 K9 dogs when we went to our first evaluation!!
I love her to death and she is my best friend and daughter.
Colorado and retired AF too. Welcome. I'm in the Springs. My West German showline boy just turned a year old. It's been a wild ride. He is my hiking companion - I'm not into competition. You'll have a great time with any pup you pick.
Welcome. Thank you for your service to the country. Determine if you want a working line GSD or a show line GSD. There are differences. What do you want to do with your dog? Are you going to post your questions?
Welcome! Let the search begin it took us almost a year to find Zoe.
