Default New member, getting GSD soon!

Hello Everyone!

I've been lurking through these forums trying to take in as much information as I can. Food, training, health, temperament and anything else I could find to read. Even threads on whether a GSD is for me! A bit nervous at first but I think I am up to the task

First of all, I owned a small Lhasa Apso puppy years ago that was given to me when I was 8yo and she lived to be approx 18yo. Loved her but I know it won't be the same as owning a GSD(As I found out from reading these forums). I first wanted to go to a breeder but I decided going to rescue would be a good option for my first GSD. Currently looking at a few dogs, ages 1-4yo, and hoping to get some experience with GSDs before I take on a puppy.

Just wanted to introduce myself(Jorge from Los Angeles,CA) and to let everyone know that this community is great from what I've read. So many helpful people and so much great information on here. I look forward to showing you guys my new dog once I get it. The rescue sent someone to my house for a check up and it went great. I have a cat so they are currently coming up with a list of dogs I would be interested.

Here is a link to the rescue I am looking at: Adopt German Shepherd Puppy, Mix or Pure breed, Young or Adult Dog

If anyone can give me some pointers right off the bat, I'd be VERY grateful!

Thanks,

Jorge

Default Update:

I picked up a GSD on saturday from a rescue some miles away on a foster-to-own contract. Dog is around 18months old and is a pleasure when cat isn't around. Knows a few basic commands, plays fetch, walks great on leash, but got only look at cat and became a whole different animal. Any suggestions?

Pictures attached. Not 100% set on name. He was Rommel at rescue but thinking of calling him Vader if I do end up keeping him. It all depends on his interaction with cat.

Jorge

Congrats!! He is super cute!! My dog does not like cats at all!! But it is because she wants to play with them and I wont let her so she just barks at them hoping to get a reaction there are some threads on here about it I actually posted something myself about it hopefully you can look that up and it will help. Good luck with your cute new baby!
