new member/ first time german shepherd owner

Hello everyone,

I am a first time owner of a German Shepherd. Her name is Kasey. I got her from an AKC breeder when she was 7 weeks old. She will be 8 months old on Feb 8th. She now weighs 80.2 lbs and is built like a middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears.

The dog is wonderful. I am very happy to have her.

Everyone comments about her features. Plus the size of her ears and paws.

The avatar pic of her was when she was 11 weeks old.

I feed her Blue Buffalo large breed puppy food. Started out with Purina Pro Plan but read a lot about their ingredients, wasn't too great, so I made the move to Blue Buffalo.

I give her a sweet potato once a week and mix in her food nonfat yogurt sometimes.

I have a large fenced in backyard which has worked out great for her. She gets plenty of exercise.

That is all I have for now!

my first thought was Holy cow those feet are huge!!!!! I have a new puppy who I think is a mix and I really hope he doesnt get that big. Hes only 6 pounds at 6 weeks so I think im safe : )

Six pounds at six weeks can grow into quite big.

Nice picture. 80 pounds is a big bitch for full grown. If this pup isn't fully filled out and grown up yet, she's huge. Make sure that she is not overweight as that will effect her quality of life and her quantity of life.

But, GSDs do vary quite a bit. If she tops out at over a hundred and is not overweight, then you got yourself a big one. She is pretty, and she does have huge paws.

Is this the Poland, near Canfield?

Welcome to the site.

Welcome from Maryland! She does have some huge paws but is stunning. Love the dark face on her.

Selzer -

Yes Poland is close to Canfield. 5 miles away. I went to Poland High school. Canfield was always my schools rival in sports.

My vet says that she will get to be around 100-105lbs. The vet said he would take her in a second if he had the chance. He loves her. The dog currently looks like she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her.

I will get current pictures of her and put it in her album.

When I went to Youngstown State, I had a friend from Poland, and I had a friend from Chardon from work that moved to Canfield years and years ago, so I am familiar with the area. She's back in Chardon now though. So my only reason for going down that way is the Steel Valley Cluster (dog show) in August at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Great show. And our club does their specialty there.

Yeah, she's going to be a big girl. She's pretty. She looks like Rushie, but he was just about 80 pounds full grown. His father was a black, and pretty fat at 105 pounds when I saw him. His owner let me know when he passed. It would be interesting to see her pedigree, but there's no way she could be related to these dogs I am thinking about I think, even though we are close in proximity.

We got her from a breeder in Leetonia, Ohio (20 miles south of Youngstown) in columbiana county.

Kasey's sire is: Octavin Von Rickenbock and her dam is: Mi Lyn Savanna

Who is your friend from Poland?
