After 10 months GSD free...
I lost my biggest baby Rebel in February 2013. It was stomach/intestinal cancer, he was not yet 10 years old. :(

Anyway, I've mourned long enough. I said at the time, "NO MORE GSD's!"...tears ever since, and I miss that big lunk. He was the dog of my heart.

Anyway, my spouse had started pushing about looking into retired Military Working Dogs, or rescues and such in the last few months, but every dog we looked at had issues with cats, or other dogs, or need to be a one pet home. We have 3 cats and 2 other dogs (both old, nearly 13 and 12) and any addition just has to work. We also both work full time so didn't want to do the baby puppy thing cause it's just hard when we're gone all day.

So behind my back, he started looking at breeders and found what appears to be a good one that's only a 3 hour drive away. We're going tomorrow to look at his 4-6 month olds that he still has for sale. He's been breeding for 45 years and the dogs are beautiful--he's a bit full of himself and his website needs help, but the dogs, the pictures of those dogs are just unbelievable.

So I'm assuming that tomorrow I'll be bringing a new baby home...

Fingers crossed and best wishes headed your way! Just looking is a great start to get your next 'perfect' GSD back into the house!

Bring your camera and take tons of pictures!

Thanks! I'm excited, nervous, anxious and crying about Rebel again...I haven't been on the forum since March 1 which was actually when I had him put to sleep. The thought of a new baby always makes me weird out about "replacing" the previous dog, even though I know from experience that I'm not really replacing him.

I'm calling breeder references today but am prepared to be bringing home a pup tomorrow.

There are so many dogs needing wonderful homes like your that THAT is what you need to focus on.

Course you aren't 'replacing' your other beloved dog, but instead now have an open place in you heart to fill with the next one! I'm sure Rebel wants you to remember him with love but not hang onto the sadness and to have you happy with another GSD in your house would HONOR his memory!

Go with an open heart but also use common sense that this may be your journey to get a new pup.

GSDs expand your heart so each time you get a new one your heart is just a bit bigger to make room for one more. Someone here posted how our dogs become part of our heart when they can't physically be w/ us anymore that way they never really leave us. Looking forward to your news about your trip .

What an exciting time, I am right there with you! We are bringing our girl home tomorrow. I can't wait to hear all about him/her and see pictures!

So sorry to hear about Rebel. We lost Levi in March (one day before his 8.5 bday) to stomach/pancreatic cancer (the mass was wrapped around both so they didn't know where it started). It certainly sucks, but our new little one has kept us quite busy! Good luck at the breeders!

You need at least three dogs in a Helena winter.

True that! Although I swore when I lost the first of the three that I wouldn't get another til I was down to one. Three is a lot with teenagers and camping and stuff...

But I just gotta have me another GSD!
