Default New GSD owner:)

Hi All,

My husband and I just adopted a 6 y/o male GSD. We are his fourth and last owners. He's Black and Tan, about 80 pounds and 27 inches tall at the shoulder. He's also very vocal, which is new for me. I can't figure out how to put pics in the post but I put some in my photo album.

He is a good looking boy!
How has he been acclimating so far in his new home? Any back story?

We adopted a GSD mix puppy from the county, I always wonder what his whole story was before he came home to us. I guess it doesn't matter since we are he forever home now, but you know...curiosity.
Congratulations on your new baby!

From what I gathered, his first owners had him 1-2 years and dumped him at the pound. The second owners had him for 2 years and had a baby. The third owners also had him two years but lost their home and had to stay with relatives; the dog had to stay chained up in the backyard and it gets really cold here, in fact, it was -7 yesterday! We got him on Tuesday and hes acclimating very well. We also have a flat coated retriever(pound puppy) that is very well behaved and socialized. They get along well in the house, but when they were out in the yard together the GSD gets aggressive and will lunge at my dogs neck, teeth bared and circles him. Someone from here suggested not to put them out together for awhile and its worked very well. We will try that later when the GSD listens better. He was encouraged to jump up to give hugs by his previous owner and listened when he felt like it. We have been working on obedience and he has responded very well, especially where food is involved. He does know sit, stay(very briefly), down, shake and he heels fairly well so I think someone may have worked with him but we are just reinforcing it now. We had an unexpected visitor this afternoon and he ran to the door to check it out. He was not aggressive one iota to this friend and was tail wagging/smelling the new guy. He did try to jump up but my husband immediately told him down while the visitor turned and ignored him and it was over. I had some reservations about this dog, but he is turning out to be a very good dog.
