Default New to Training

Hi Everyone! I am new to this site! I found it while looking for German Shepard information! I just went & picked out my 4 week old AKC German Shepard Puppy a couple days ago! His name is Gunner! He will be our first GSD & I'm super excited about training him but in all honesty I have no idea were to start from. I know for a fact he will be trained in German.. Other than that I have no idea how old to start training him. He will officially come home on April 8Th. So, I'm hoping when he comes home I can jump right in & start training him!! If anyone could give me any advice, I would appreciate it! Welcome! Good luck with Gunther. I suggest you start reading the threads in the puppy palace forum.

What a handsome boy. They are very smart dogs. I don't have much experience in training but there are lots of info here.

You will be shocked on how easy it is! I am having so much fun!

Our pup is food motivated so some beef liver treats and he is ready for work.

someone recommended Leerburg Dog Training | 16,000 pages of dog training information, 500 free dog training streaming videos, free eBooks, podcasts, by Ed Frawley and Michael Ellis to me and they have many free videos, and there are many on youtube.

good luck to you. looks like a wonderful dog. i highly recommend clicker training along with those german commands. many years ago i owned a GSD trained in english. i then got a rottie and decided to use german commands, hoping it would eliminate confusion as to who i was commanding. in the end, they both learned german.
