Default Walking etiquette

Hi i just received a 4 and 1/2 month old GSD and hes great but this morning when i was walking him i let him walk up to another walker with an older golden retriever. It all went fine but the other owner yelled at me and told me to not just walk up like that. Did i break some walking etiquette or was he just being a jack*** who got scared of a GSD puppy? Btw yogi didnt start barking at the other dog until the other owner told me off

I attached a picture of my little Yogi too i hope it attached correctly.

You should always ask before you approach. Sometimes dogs don't like other dogs, then if the owner knows this they tense up and make things worse. Some people don't want strange dogs by there dogs just because, but its there option. There is also the fear factor, as your dog gets older you will see people go the other way to avoid you and there is nothing you can do about it.

You should never let your dog approach another. It is indeed poor walking etiquette.

On the other hand, congrats on your handsome addition!

Ok thanks for the advice. Its just that every other person who approaches us just comes up to us first so i wasnt sure what the right thing to do was ill ask from a distance from now on. Also i was just wonder what type of GSD yogi is i didnt get much information on him as the old woman i got him from wanted a guard dog at 8 weeks old and he was "too timid" for him and his papers just say his sire is rocco von hochlandenge and his dam is chara vonhochlandenge and i dont know how to look up pedigrees.
