Greetings from St. Paul MN and Zoey
Background: I have owned many dogs (including a FB GSD) over the years, but the last 20 years I was bereft of canine companionship. I was reminded of how short life is after reading about the horrible freak accident of the Secret Service Mal in New Orleans recently, and I renewed my efforts at finding the perfect puppy.
I'd initially decided on the Belgian Mal, as they can be smaller than their relative the GSD, and checked with a rescue club in my region, but the "rules and regulations" turned me off, so I turned my face to my local humane society ... and there she was. A GSD/Chow mix, as sweet as any dog ever was and she's been in her Forever Home a week yesterday! We bonded from minute one!
We've been to our first puppy class (this past Saturday) and Zoey was overjoyed to meet her full-blooded relative: A FB GSD named Murphy, and the two hit it off immediately. Poor Zoey has a new nickname - "Mini Me". They chased each other around the play area until they dropped in exhaustion; Zoey had the lead on this - she's small enough to get under chairs and through legs and Murphy has to wait until Zoey comes back out.
At any rate: Zoey is a (much) smaller version of a GSD - sweet, loving, friendly, a talker (talk about cool - hearing Murphy talking and realizing that was the same noise that Zoey makes). Zoey's nose is shorter, her ears aren't as long ... she's stockier, right now. Her tail is full GSD one minute, and Chow the next, all curly. As you can see in my Avatar and photo album, she's got straight GSD coloring. And no, there's a pink tongue in there, no purple on this girl... The photo below was taken her second day with us.
Zoey's heritage is overwhelmingly GSD, and I hope you all will accept her here; we need a place to call home on the Internet! And I need help as a new puppy owner, too!!! GREAT to meet you all!
