New in Texas

Ok, not totally new - about a year or two ago I signed on when we began looking for a GSD puppy. Signing back onto the board because we found a breeder we like .... and the litter was born last week (we have first pick of the females).

Anyway, about me:

Live in Texas (home of Texas A&M University).

When I was growing up, we always had a well bred GSD around the house. But after getting out of the Navy and moving to our current town, I got into raising, training, and trailing Labrador Retrievers. In a big way (at one point, I was a fully pointed hunt test judge with both the AKC and HRC). Took my last retriever to the '05 Master National (sadly, we had to have him put down just a few days before our German Shepard was born due to abdominal torsion).

Retired from the retriever games, and only hunted with my retrievers (and even then, not very often). Decided a couple of years ago that my next pup would be a German Shepard (getting older, wanted a dog that would be better protection in the house than a Lab, plus I just missed having a shepard).

I am kind of toying with the idea of playing the Sch games with this pup - but have absolutely zero experience with it (I suspect that the training will have somethings that are identical to training labs, but others that will be very, very different). Would kind of like to find a good German Shepard club in my area, but not having alot of luck with that (yet).
