Default Hello from Mass...

Alright here we go....

I have been lurking for some time now and decided to finally post.
I am 21 and I've had dogs all my life but this is MY own first pup and first big dog ( my parents have 3 poodle things )

I picked up Shelby in august in Vermont and it has been an experience....
She got very sick after i picked her up but since then she has been doing great.

She is almost 8 months now and weighs 52lbs.
she is very very smart and very obedient and SHE loves her squeaky balls

she is also very protective of me especially when we are on walks in the woods, she does not hesitate to jump up and stop me from going any farther if she thinks there is danger.

currently she likes to put her paws on the counter to get food

any comments thoughts suggestions or anything of the nature is more then welcome

Included are some pictures of her through out her goofyness
Thanks!!!
Ben

Sounds like you have a wonderful, very cute companion. Our dog went through a very short phase of paws on the counter, we told her "off" and moved physically moved her. I know my dog is very curious about all the wonderful smells in the kitchen, so I often show her or let her smell the things I'm handling in the kitchen. My trainer offered a harsher correction, but this was not necessary for us.

Welcome, and keep us posted on how things are going. I'm sure your parents are relieved and happy you have such a naturally protective girl.

Welcome. What a cutie! My son would be very jealous of you. He is 22 and lives in Boston. He got Stella at 8 weeks in 2011, but was not able to keep her because the landlord did not allow dogs. He tried to find an affordable place but it just didn't work out. So Stella came to live with me in Ct at 11 weeks.
Stella did some counter surfing too. I just told her off and physically removed her. She is 19 months now and doesn't do too much surfing anymore....

boston is tough for dogs and even places that allow dogs will not allow shepherds which i think is ridiculous, Shelby is the sweetest most gentle dog we have out of the 5 living with us. Shelby's counter jumping i blame on her little sister Maya who is our 6 month old hungarian Vizsla. She has learned so many bad things from her!
