We fostered a 1/2 malinois mix that had ears very much like that. Some people thought he had pit bull in him but, if he did, it was very little. He had the typical Mal coloring, though, not the pretty brindle. And he had ALL the Mal behaviors including redefining our notion of "energetic dog"!

Hi, fairly new to this site. Tried a few times. Tho have health problems and cant always be on here. Have a shepard, tho most say he is mixed. Hard to tell from pictures, but looks like pit bull too me. Some say the ears, well for mine, his stand up when he wants them to, his tail is curled, but is straight down alot of the time. Doesnt have full black on face, and is only a yr old. He is thin, energy up the wazoo, but he is full shepard for that, wants to take charge, keep watch, protect whats HIS, and run, run, run. Oh, and can jump and take down whatever. pictures, have more will put more on profile. Wish people were more open to just sending a quick mail on this site, not just want more pics. Might be that I havent been on here long enough. Will give it a few more trys.

Oh, what a doll! No matter what you eventually think that he is, if you have paperwork that calls him anything but pitbull keep it handy, even laminate it. There is just way too much anti pit sentiment out there amongst the fearful and ignorant and they are such a great dog.

English mastiffs come in brindle. Nothing about this pup screams pit bull to me - not his head shape, his eyes, or his face in general. I certainly would not label him as such, especially being unsure. I would call him a mastiff mix, or mastiff shepherd mix, as you were told.

I really don't see GSD in him. But, whatever he is ... he's one handsome guy!

My friend in TN had someone drop off three puppies at her rental property. Only one is brindle. She is fostering them for the local shelter who said they are not pits. Regardless, the property owner feared the brindle pup was a pit. I told her he looked like a plott hound to me and to call him a plott hound/retriever mix. Anything ending in hound or retriever should make people relax.
It's bad enough when pit bulls are discriminated against. I think it's even worse when a "might have some pit bull in it" gets the same treatment. It would be nice if we could judge the dog as an individual rather than a breed. As for the pup in question. I think he is adorable and is going to grow up to be one gorgeous dog. Hope the OP hangs around and posts pictures as he grows.
