I've been lurking here for a few weeks, but decided to say a formal 'hello'. I currently am GSD'less and am researching breeders in Texas for the time in the future when I'll be able to add one into the family. I've had German Shepherds in my life since I was 10 years old (best Christmas present ... ever!); however, the ones I've had have always been from local backyard breeders, not really knowing better. The last two were from a breeder nearby that really did love her dogs (but did not health test to my knowledge) and her dogs had great temperaments for a family, super smart (by the time my pup was 7 months old he had completed 2 levels of obedience and was invited to the advance class), but was low key and calm in the house. House broken at 4 months and when he got tired, would go to his crate ... and pull the door to behind him. He was a character that I lost much too young to an accident. My last GSD had EPI and we struggled with that for years.
With all the information available on the internet (I wasn't particularly computer savvy in the past at all!), I am a little overwhelmed trying to figure out which line would best suit us. Considering the length of time that the dog will be a part of the family, I want to be sure I have all my bases covered! I know it's not pivotal to base a decision on aesthetics, but they are important to me in addition to everything else. Any suggestions would be welcome! I don't think a pup is in my future in the next year, but you never know. I currently have a small senior dog and don't think it would be fair to bring in a rambunctious pup into his 'retirement home'. I also have a rotten persian that a new pup will have to live with as well. Anyways, thanks for all the informative discussions! I've learned a lot.

Hi and Welcome from Colorado!
Sounds like you have a lot of experience with GSD's. When you're ready to look for another GSD post in the "Looking for Breeder" forum and list your location. There are a lot of members here from Texas and should be able to point you in the right direction. When you get your pup, post lots of pictures!
