I joined these forums a few years ago when we adopted Cassie from the German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California.
![]() She was an absolute joy of a dog and I learned so much about how to be a better dog mom from her. Alas, we did not get to enjoy her for long. She had some medical issues from the start and then developed more and we had to say goodbye to her last week. Because we had watched her go downhill the last month we were somewhat ready (as ready as one can be to lose such a good friend) to say goodbye and more than ready to rescue someone new in need of love. Today we said yes to adopting this cute white german shepherd. ![]() ![]() ![]() We're still working out a name for her. She's about a year old, found as a stray (with her ears packed full of foxtails) and rescued by German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California. We're hoping to be able to bring her home in a few days. I am going to try and get myself back active on the forums. I learned so much from reading here.

First, my condolences on the loss of Cassie.
![]() And second, congrats on your soon to be new girl. She is a sweetie. I love white GSD's. I don't know what it is, but I have such a thing for them. And lastly, thank you for rescuing and I know she'll be a wonderful addition to your family.

How about the name Sandy?
First the hurricane and now the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook. I know it has tragedy behind it but I look at it as more of a tribute and a way to honor the victims.

Thank you all for the kind words and the welcome. Our new girl is now named Zoey and we get to bring her home Wednesday night. I can't wait! I've washed all the beds and blankets, sorted the toys, cleaned out the crate and it's still not Wednesday night yet!
![]() Another rescue group called us with a second white shepherd, a two year old male, and I was tempted to take him right away too but I want to give Zoey time to settle in to her new home and for us to get to know each other better. But I told both groups we will definitely take a male in a few months. Thanks. **checking** Nope, still not Wednesday night. Drat.
