Hi:
I am a new member. I have had a personal protection trained GSD, Madison, since 1999. With a small child I preferred that over owning a gun. Even though I purchased Madison for utilitarian purposes she became a major part of our family. She was "my" dog and always glued to me. With her passing two weeks ago, I was left with an empty feeling. I have three children now and a full life - it's hard to explain. That being said, I decided to purchase another GSD. Madison was plush, 60 LBS, tan and black...so I decided on Reagan, short-hair, 55 LBS @ 11 months. Reagan is obedience trained. That being said, SHE ROCKS. Reagan has been home with us for three days now. We have 4 other dogs..3 are little and one is a lab my son wanted after Madison died. So while I'm new here I'm not new to the GSD. I will say though, now that I am older, I would like to take a more active role with my dog. Meaning...do everything I can with her. ![]() I have a couple of issues I'd like to talk about in another more appropriate forum, but wanted to say hi, and give some background on me. I've read TONS of posts already and feel like I know several of the regular posters. I look forward to meeting more officially as I become more active on the board. Shawn. |

Welcome! Wow it sounds like you have a full house right now. I'm sorry about the passing of your Madison, it's never easy to lose something that has been a big part of your life.
I'm glad that Reagan seems to be working out for you, how does she get along with the rest of your pack? Please post some pictures when you get a chance, we love pictures!

Thank you for the welcome.
@Bear GSD - Yes, we have a full house. We live in a multi-generational household. Total humans equal eight and dogs five. Adjusting to keeping order is what we are working on now. Reagan seems to be getting along with the rest of the family. A couple of things I am going to need to work on: 1) Reagan gets protective while in her kennel and gets after the other dogs if they walk near her toys, 2) She is still adjusting to who belongs and has stopped a couple family members in their tracks at the front door. I'm going to hopefully get counsel from more experienced people on this site and hopefully work through these issues. @Typhoon - Thanks for the heads-up on the pictures! We've had Reagan for three days now, I'll have to work on getting some "good" shots of her. For now, the included picture will have to do! ![]() |
