I found this site when I googled "German shepherd moaning" to see if this behavior was common. My situation is similar to 'Brightelf' (Loud moaning-- this is new) and I was delighted to read the comments. My husband Doug was a paraplegic since 1985 & his health had been getting progressively worse. He had a stroke in 2005 & could no longer pick anything up off the floor from his wheelchair without falling out of it, and I was worried to leave the house unless he was in bed. We looked into getting a service dog & found a trainer willing to find & train a GSD for the role, since Doug grew up with them & loved the breed. We were so blessed to get Dakota. If Doug dropped something, Dakota was there to pick it up, help with a wide range of tasks & helped Doug feel independent again. Doug passed away last year & Dakota transitioned from service dog to grief counselor. I can't imagine getting through the last year without him. I'm now helping Dakota's trainer to work with more disabled people find service dogs, particularly returning veterans.

Hello and Welcome, sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. Sounds like you are very giving in helping the disabled and returning veterans in their need. Please share pics of your boy, we love pictures on here.
