Hey everyone
![]() I've been reading tonnes of threads on this site. What an awesome place! A little about us. We've taken on a 9 month old female that has had no previous training at all. We got her last Wednesday (It's Monday now here). I started clicker training (after seeing some of tabs vids on youtube) and now she knows "Sitz", "Platz", "Foo-ey", "Nein", and has learnt to mostly walk well on a leash. She does not like 1 of our sons to walk in front of her, she will pull like crazy but as soon as they go behind her she is fine. So I'm assuming she thinks she is higher up than him? She also seems quite lazy? I had read loads and loads of people saying GSDs are high energy but she likes to sleep and lounge around most of the day? Is she still just settling in (I know it will take a while for her to fully settle in but I thought I could at least really amp her up) or have we got a lazy one? lol ![]() LOL sorry about the giant pics! |

![]() As for the wanting to walk in front of your son, not un normal, these dogs like to be in the lead ) I"m sure she IS still settling in, not all of them are energizer bunnies

Thank you
We think she is just gorgeous ![]() Yeah I thought she just wants to be higher in the pack than him, will this cause any trouble later on with her thinking she can dominate him? They play perfectly well. She doesn't pull with us, walks very nicely to heel (had to teach her that too) She's such a softie She hasn't been socialized with other dogs. She tries to act all tough barking but hiding by us and moving backwards so we are working on that as well |

She's a beautiful girl! Bless you for taking her on and loving the clicker training! Make sure you are making it fun fun fun to set her up to succeed. Lots of times these smart dogs learn so fast we push a bit harder than we should and suck the fun (and eagerness for learning) completely by accident.
It's as important to train as have fun and really work on 'engagement' type stuff. Will she tug and play with you? click this --> Engagement - Key to Training Alot of time it takes a few weeks to a month to have a new dogs real personality come out. Testing the waters with such a huge life change takes a bit of time for everyone. So she may end up with tons of energy or be a nice calm pup in the end! Have you been able to locate a good set of classes in your area? Perfect age for her to start off and so fun to learn with other people and their dogs (and show how much smarter our GSD's are )

Where does she sleep at night? Have you tried to put her in a crate?
