Hi Everyone at German Shepherds.com
I'm new to this board, but Gitchimanitou is my 2nd shepherd. My 1st is a shared dog with my Mom, who lives in Indiana. I helped raise Remington & loved her from day 1, but she was always "technically" my Mom's dog. Remi was a special addition to our family, as she came just 6 months after the sudden loss of my father. She was the 1st real reason we had to smile & she still easily accomplishes that everyday. My husband & I moved to TX last year and Remi keeps my Mom company, but I miss her very much. Enter Gitchimanitou, our new 8 month old female She's a spunky, smart, beautiful, black & red german shepherd, who we adore! We've just finished our 1st obedience class & looking forward to doing much more work. On Saturday we're going to try schutzhund training for the 1st time. I'm very excited and very nervous. She's already practiced puppy bite work, once & really loved it. Really looking forward to meeting more German Shepherd/dog lovers & learning from them.
Thanks everyone! Yes, we call her Gitchi for short, but wanted to introduce her "formally" to the group I'm going to start training with a new schutzhund group that's just getting started here in the Houston area. We have people from the Spring area, Dickinson, NW Houston, and some other areas; so we're still deciding on a permeant location (hopefully within 610 loop), but to start out we're going to train at one of the member's houses this Saturday. It's called Houston Hundesport. I'm totally new to the sport and more formal dog training, but I'm very excited for us to give it a try. The club is very welcome to all experience levels, which was a big draw for me. I'm looking forward to watching the more experienced dogs and handlers to learn from them.
