Hi, my name is Betty and our family just got our first ever GSD. His name is Shadoe T. and he is a Dark Sable. We brought him home on July 19th, 2012 and we are already in love. He has touch each of us. Shadoe is 4 1/2 months old, we took him to the Vet today and he weighs in at 40lbs and we got some bad news. The vet said he has a Heart murmur and left Testicle has not dropped. His advice was to take him back to the Breeder and get another pup. OMG! How can I do that, we love him so much, we don't want another pup, we want him. I called the Breeder and she told me that she has had the pups check before and no one mentioned about a Murmur, so she wants me to bring him to her vet and have him checked there and she will pay for that office fee. I had noticed he seems to be breathing hard and fast at times. and some days he sleeps a lot, I figured that maybe that would be kinda normal for a puppy. Apparently not? I noticed that sometimes he will be playing and all of a sudden plop down right where he stands and rest for a few. I am so beside myself, I am trying to not panick before hearing from this other vet. Just not sure what is going to happen.

Welcome Betty!
You will learn so much here! Sables are my favorite, especially darks and reds, your boy must be very handsome (Make sure to post some pictures )! I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope everything turns out ok. That's great of you to keep him, despite his issues!

A murmur is not necessarily a death sentence..definitely get a second opinion, perhaps an ultrasound. Maybe everything will be fine. I will definitely hope for the best. Welcome ..btw.

welcome aboard!! I'm glad your keeping him he sounds like a great dog. Taz had a murmur when he was a youngling and he outgrew it, id say take your breeder up on their offer and definitely get a second opinion.

Work with your breeder with this, I know of other dogs to live long healthy lives with a murmur. Your dog is beautiful!

Many outgrow a murmur, so don't panic just yet. Also, we have had more than one male who had one undescended testicle until later in puppyhood. My daughters male was about 10 mos old when we realized his were finally both down.
