ok i'm a first time German Shepard owner i have a 7 week old white German Shepard named sally what are some crucial need to know facts or tips about the breed. i saved her from a man who bred his dogs, but didn't take good care of them. her ears were black from dirt and fleas, she was so stinky, malnourished, and scared to death, she has her first vet apt Thursday i just got her on Friday.

Thank you for giving her a forever and loving home. German Shepherd's have the nickname of Landsharks because when they are puppies they like to nip and chew on you. You will have to work with your girl Sally and tell her no bite and give her a toy or some type of chew to break her from doing this. Good luck with your girl and hope that she checks out ok at the vet, that is very important.

Read, read, and read. From hear to around 1 1/2 yrs old she will change. Learn to recognise each phase and correct as needed, but remember she is learning to. You are the alpha never forget that. It takes a firm hand at times, no smacking or beating of anysort. The biting will come first so get that one mastered as soon as it starts along with ob training. I personally like the biting for the interaction but you must be able to stop it on command when it gets out of hand, a good pair of welders gloves or equivalent can help cause it does hurt and it can be used as a trigger for play time. There is a lot of good advice her so use it along with other things to find what works for you. GL
