Default need help

we live in Burleson, TX and are looking for a good breeder from whom we can purchase our first GS puppy (female). The big debate is do we go with a show line or a working line? we are looking at only genuine German lines, no American lines.

We have 6 children, and are expecting our 7th. We homeschool. We are wanting a puppy as our golden retreiver is 11 and blind, he is a fabulous dog!

We don't have any experience with german shepherds and are at an absolute loss as to which line would be better for our family. We want a dog that is smart, learns well, is obedient will be a good companion but will also protect.

any advice is greatly appreciated!

thanks

Lines don't matter, the important thing is to find a reputable breeder that will match you with the right pup for your needs/family.

I would advise you may wish to wait on a pup because of all you have on your plate right now.. They are sooo full of energy and are called landsharks for good reason. With 6 kids, being pregnant and caring for an older, blind dog. Well, may god have mercy on your soul...lol. Im not in any way judging your decision or capabilities, I just dont know if I, personally would have the patience or energy in your situation. Of course, when I get my mind set on something, eso. a puppy, common sense never stood in my way. Good luck!!!!

If it makes a difference, there are a lot more quality working line breeders in Texas than show lines. Of course you can always go to another state or have a puppy shipped.

Have to agree. A GSD pup is not like a Golden pup--there is a period of time during puppyhood where you can't even touch the darn thing without getting bitten! They are high-energy and particularly mouthy, no matter what bloodline.

Having said that, whether working vs. show, the most important thing is to find a good breeder who can select the right pup for your situation.
