Hi All!! I've been reading the forum for a few days on and off and finally decided to join.
I have a GSD (though probably not full blooded) that I acquired in November of 2010. The dog warden had brought him into the police department (where my dad was chief) after witnesses called in that a puppy had been thrown out of a moving car window, hoping to find him a home before he went to the pound. Jax was about 16 weeks old (as the vet later guesstimated), and dirty, scruffy, skin and bone, but cute as all get out! Dad brought him home and I immediately fell for his sweet, goofy personality. He stayed in a huge cardboard box the first night, and when I saw him in the morning, he popped up with his paws dangling over the lip of the box, and was dubbed 'jax in the box', and Jax stuck. He is now 18 months old, and a sweetheart. His obedience is almost spot on, and he taught himself to run out and grab the newspaper in the morning. For a puppy that didn't learn to play fetch until he was about 9 months old, his retrieve drive is very high. I'd go on and on, but I want to introduce Rowdy too. My other dog is really my boyfriend's black Labrador that he bought from a local retired K9 officer who breeds working dogs, Rowdy is currently 17 weeks old, and a handful, but so sweet! Unfortunately, I only got to spend a week with Rowdy while I was home on leave for Christmas. I am currently in Kuwait, and in a week onto Bahrain for a 9 month deployment with the Army. Home is wonderful (currently freezing cold) Ohio. I am taking college classes while deployed, and plan on finishing up the remaining weeks in the police academy when I return to the States, as I only completed about half before the mobilization. My eventual goal is to work a K9 unit with my local department, but that's years down the road, and a mighty big set of shoes to fill. My father was a K9 officer in the mid to late 80's, and had, at one time, the #4 dog in the nation with the United States Police Canine Association. We've had a dog in our home my entire life, from dad's two K9's, to my pet Lab that sadly passed while I was in basic training. Jax will almost certainly never be a K9, but I love him to pieces anyway. Looking forward to meeting everyone, and learning from all of you! Not sure how interesting my posts will be due to distance, but we'll see! JAX ![]() Rowdy

Welcome from Ohio. Rowdy is a handsome guy, and I'm glad you've given him a good home. Thanks for your service.

Hello and Welcome, and thank you so much for your service to our country. Sounds like you have your future planned out for yourself so stay safe and make that dream come true. Both of your pups are beautiful and they will remember you when you come back home.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It definitely is tough being far away like this. Technology is amazing and is helping keep me sane. Not only can I FaceTime my parents, they let me see my dog as well. Can't wait to get home to my dogson though!
