Hi everyone. I have been reading this forum for months now and decided to finally join. I have a 3 year old female black and tan GSD, but she is our family dog and lives with my parents. I plan on getting a female black and tan with extended lblack or a bicolor in June. I work in the school system on a beautiful bay in northern lower Michigan. I can't wait to spend the summer with a new puppy, implementing all of the things I've learned on this site. I have not yet found the right breeder though. I don't have an unlimited budget (1000-1200 dollars, which I think is the most i would reasonably pay for a pet/companion pup) and would like to find someone in state. I was really hoping for a Neuer Monde Shepherd, but unfortunately I don't think they will have a litter by the early summer. I've gotten a couple recommendations for breeders in Michigan, but would love any more suggestions from the experts.

Alta-Tollhaus has showlines in Michigan.
Zu Truen Handen and Wildhaus are working lines in Michigan. I want to say there was one more who was a member of this board in MI. . . .?

You definitely have some good choices in MI I'm assuming for your price point and that you prefer a blanket back or bi color you are probably looking into the working lines but have you looked into the differences to know which lines you would actually prefer? You can find a good pet/companion in any of the lines but knowing which you'd prefer helps people make recommendations for breeders.

Thank you everyone for your responses. This site is so helpful! To be a little more specific, I was looking more at working lines initially because they fit what I liked physically and were more likely to be in my price range (1000-1200 or less). I did not want to spend 2000+ for show lines when I have no intention of showing. The more I looked into the lines, I have been able to learn more about working line temperaments, but don't know a lot about show line drives and temperaments. From what I have found, people discuss drives ect, more for working dogs. That is probably what I've found because that's the direction I was looking though. I am looking for a running partner, so good hips and elbows are a must. I want a dog who will be protective. I am interested in doing dog agility one day as well. Not so much as a competition, but for something fun and challenging to do together. Black/tan with extended black or bicolor is preferred, but I like pure black as well. I would like a breeder in Michigan for convenience and easy access to the breeder in the future, but Chicago, Ohio or Indiana (preferably in the northern half of the states) would work too.
