If you decide on working lines, there's a fantastic breeder in Michigan- Wildhaus. They are on this board, and many of the dogs' they produced owners are as well. Gorgeous, sound dogs. I just love their dogs!

Contact Bill Kulla, he breeds nice working lines and is near Chicago. Shelby (neuer Monde) has been breeding her females to Bill's males so they are the same lines. I have a young male I got from Bill and he's half brother to the most recent neuer Monde litter. My dog is sable but most of his litter were black or black and tan (almost all black). :: BILL KULLA DOG TRAINING ::

They look great! But maybe too high drive for pet/companion? Also, as I see all of the incredible titles, I'm thinking they may be out of my price range, but I didn't see a price on the site for any litters.

I will be contacting Wildhaus. I have gotten a lot of reccomendations for this breeder. I'm not getting my hopes up too much though, it says availability for the next litter is limited and preference is given to working homes. The dogs look fantasic though!

Kailey, while you are searching, save a bit more $ so you won't be limited to price. If you go with a good, responsible breeder then paying $1500 is very reasonable. You'll get breeder support and know that they are taking no shortcuts. There are 'pet' pups in every litter, and if you want to do agility in the future, well that is a 'working home'! Just take time and look at all your options(while you save your pennies) And really a dog with more drive is so much easier to train than one that lacks it. Drive doesn't equal energy. A balanced dog has drive and an off switch.
I have a Wildhaus pup and he is the best dog I've ever had! I also train with Lies and her Pan, and he is not over the top drive, very happy a wonderful line to have as a sport dog or companion. Oh, and he's gorgeous!
I also pm'd you about a couple other breeders, so keep checking their sites or get in touch with them.
MI has some great breeders, most of the really good ones only have a couple litters a year, so contacting them now would be my advice.
Louie is beautiful, by the way!

Thanks for the advice, and the info in your pm. I think I may have to expand my budget. I was setting a limit because I wanted to make sure I could save up enough for the cost of the dog, start up costs and emergency vet bills. BUT, better breeder means fewer long term costs most likely. And thanks for the compliment on Louie; I think she's pretty great too! That is my favorite picture of her.

I'd get in touch with Shelby, as you are in her area, waiting for a litter is excruciating, but worth it in the long run. And I think Cathy that I pm'd you about has a great training place in her town(not sure if you are local to her) I'd love to train where she does! Pine Meadows Dog Training Center

I have been in contact with her, but yes it looks as though I would have to wait for a litter. I feel strongly about getting a puppy between May and July because I work in the school system and have the summer off. Summer really is the most logical time for me and I am not sure I could wait another year! I am planning on contacting Wildhaus and another breeder from this board Crooked Creek. I know it is out of state, but they look like they might have what I am looking for as well.

Side note: I am very overwhelmed by how supportive and helpful everyone on this site is. I really feel as though people care about my situation and want to share their knowledge. What a great community! Thank you!
