Default Introduction

Hello from Florida, where it is actually REALLY cold! Im happy to have found this site & surprised I didnt sooner.

Maya is our family GSD despite my son's belief, that he shares with everyone we meet, that she is a police dog (my husband is in law enforcement, my son is 6). I also have a 14 year old daughter.

Maya is 2 years old, has a "big" brother age 5, we think, named Toby (Tobias Antonios). Toby is a chi mix we adopted from the pound 3 years ago, he helped us raise Maya.

Maya has a secret friend, our cat, they love each other very much. But any other cat Maya sees she acts as though she wants to tear it to pieces! She really hates cats but loves hers. I have the photos to prove it!

Well, that's our little pack & I think our animals & children alike r very happy & content.

Im looking forward to peruising the site for any helpful info., tips & enjoying other's GSD stories.

Hi Maya's Mom! Welcome. Question for you... did Maya and the cat grow up together? I have a 2yr old male who I'd love to get along with the cat. He doesn't seem to want to tear her up, but just stands and barks at her. Needless to say, she won't come up from the basement. Just wondering how you did it. Thanks.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Michele, did u have your cat prior to your dog? I had my cat who was 7 years old when we brought Maya home as a puppy. Maya was raised knowing the cat was part of our pack. That might b the difference.

Had the cat first, then got Gunny as a puppy. He was so excited with her that I felt bad and never pushed the subject. I'm regretting it now.

Welcome. It was 40 this morning in Miami! Didn't turn on the heat last night before bed and woke up with 2 GSDs in bed with us. It was even too cold for them to be in their beds on the floor!

Awww, Maya has the same color/marking patterns yours has. I will pist pics as soon as I can figure it out! Im sure Miami is at least 10 degrees warmer than here & that would b nice! I grew up "up North" and have a low tolerance to the cold!
