Hi guys,
I don't have a German Shepherd yet, but probably will be getting one in the next couple of years. I currently have a cardigan welsh corgi, with whom I have done conformation, but currently do agility, rally, and we are starting herding (again) in two weeks. We've also done some obedience, but I got rather bored with it and left it in favor of agility. While Cardigans are my heart breed, I also really love GSDs and am looking to get one mostly as a pet (as in, I do NOT want to show, that's for the corgis), but also in the hopes of doing some herding and agility. We do have a shutzhund club here, but I've never done shutzhund before and know nothing about it. I'm not opposed. :-) Anyway, I'm here to learn about GSDs because there are so types (German show, Czech Working, American Show) and I really have no idea what the differences are, or even what I should be looking for in a GSD breeder. I know what makes a good Corgi breeder, but not every breed is the same and I want to make a good decision. Anyway, I'll probably be more of a lurker then an active poster, but I wanted to introduce myself, anyway! Take care and have a great new year! ~Cammy |

Welcome to the site and love that you have a corgi and do agility!
If you scroll thru this thread (click this --> Things to look for in a 'Responsible' Breeder ) there's a bunch of links posted with the different 'flavors' of GSDs to look at.

Awesome and welcome! Don't hesitate to ask questions - great way to learn and to educate others too.
As you lurk and read, you will find lots of great links that give you more background information on just about anything. Here is a favorite link of mine that goes into the three main types of GSDs: (Types of German Shepherds, by Wildhaus Kennels ) And while you're into clicking links, here is an article that I think should be required reading for every GSD owner: Elem. of Temperament

Welcome EternalStudent~Cammie
![]() This link has a few suggestions for books. Favorite Links, Books and Videos! - German Shepherd Dog Forums If you want to learn first hand about the breed just read thru the forums...some of it may be overwhelming, and some of the postings may be 'harsh' from a new members prospective, but really most everyone is very kind. We are all just passionate about the breed, so protective of the GSD. Every now and then hackles come up and we need some corrections! But this site is probably one of the best for learning about the breed. History, training, breeding, health and how to find a good breeder all right here! I love the Cardi's...that will probably be my next dog. Oh, and would love to see pics of your Cardi!! |

Welcome aboard! A great book for laying the foundation for what a working GSD should be, is a book written by the founder of the breed, Capt. von Stephanitz. Fascinating.
