Hi all and thanks for having a forum like this
![]() I recently added a female GSD to my home which already consisted of 2 yorkies and a Shep mix, so this is my first purebred Shep. I have years of experience in the pet related field but have heard so many conflicting things about raising a GSD that I feel overwhelmed and like I am getting my very first dog all over again, so here I am. First I wanted to see if anyone else aquired a puppy from the same breeder I used, her name is Holly Yeatman of Cedarwood German Shepherds. I would love to know what your experience is with her lines. Next, food. I keep hearing to watch the protein then watch the calcium. I stay on top of all the current dog foos for my own dogs and because I have to in my line of work. I originally wanted to feed Ellie, my new GSD the same food my other 3 get which is Fromm grain free, however I was told it was too high in protein so I have her on taste of the wild puppy but she doesn't seem thrilled with it. So any recomendations there would be wonderful. Ellie was the shy pup in the littler and has some submissive/excited urination with certain people but I have been taking her to work with me daily to get socialized and so far she loves other dogs and children, she will go to women easy enough and men while at work or in my home but outside she will bark and growl at certain men. Also she looks at my smaller dogs like they are toys although since my Shep mix did the same thing I expected it and started training her from the minute they met and now she seems to get it and just kind of leaves them alone and plays with my Shep mix. At this point I keep getting told horror stories about the breed so i want to do everything right. Ellie is just going on 11 weeks. I should also mention me Shep mix actually looks like a small version of a Dutch Shepherd at just 50lbs and she was adopted from the local SPCA at 12 weeks and was highly aggressive about everything from food to toys to her crate and with a couple months of traning on my own she turned around and 4 years later is an amazing dog so I am not worried about the stereotype I am just concerned about myself doing everything right. I intended to raise her the same way I have my other 3 but I am now wondering if she needs special consideration. Any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance. |

Welcome to the forums! Check out the "feeding our puppy" section to get lots of answers on the puppy food issue. Hopefully you'll get a chance to post some pics of your dogs soon.

So we intended to name her Lavender but my 2 year old had trouble with it and could say the L very well but then skipped to the der part so I said is Ellie easier and she loved it. However Ellies registered name will be Avris Lavender Rain. Avri is my daughter and she is my co-pilot :-) Here are some pics from the first week we brough Ellie home when she was 8 weeks she is now appraoching 11 weeks and once I get through all the holiday photos we took I will post recent ones.

This is Ellie from this morning, also included is one of my mix Izzy, feel free to input what you think her mix may be. I actually had one of those DNA tests done at a pet expo and it said shep/sheltie/doberman but the company was also accused of fake results so I highly doubt those are real and it was the cheek swab. Shes only 50lbs and 4 years old. And then Ellie of course is purebred from American/German/Czech lines

Welcome, Beautiful puppy's!! My puppy is still with her Mama, she was born on Christmas Eve, so I'll have to wait a little while longer before I get to bring her home, but your little girls are adorable!! What's the Yorkie's name?

Thanks all. The Yorkies name is Bandit, it's a boy and yes he is in a pink bed, he has loved pink since he was a pup. Since I have 3 females as well I get alot of pink toys and he takes them, the pink bed was for my female yorkie and he claimed it. That pic was a once in a lifetime shot because he won't really le tthe pup come near him any other time and she has been respectful about his space. The GSD breeder is interested in Yorkies and she was asking so much about mine when I met with her the first time and all I could say was having yorkies and sheps is a very odd mix but with training it's not a huge challenge as long as you get the bigger breeds as puppies, for me anyway.
As for my mix I had never even heard of a Dutchie before. When I adopted Izzy we went to a pet expo and there were 2 Dutchies there for an agility show, Izzy at the time was 16 weeks or so and they insisted she was a Dutch puppy, so this was the same expo I got the DNA done. As she grew you could see she wasn'y purebred but she has alot of the traits feature wise. She is too small and has too much white and she sheds like crazy but whatever her mix is, it works she is so balanced. The funny part is when I adopted her they listed her as a border collie Thanks for the welcomes!
