Hello Carolyn....
No he and I are fairly new, as of 1 week or so. I have a lot of work to do with him, pretty much retrain almost everything. When I am comfortable we will head there, but for now I have a greenspace behind my house. Bruce pit is quite a popular dog run. Craig.. |

Yes it sure is. If you ever do decide to go, my advice would be to go off the main trails that everyone takes. There are dozens of smaller trails and you'll only run into a couple of people and it's really quite a nice walk through the woods. Good luck with all your training. This is a really great and helpful forum.

Hello GSKnight, yes, this is a rescued dog.
The story as I have been told, is that this dog was purchased from the original breeder for stud purposes and lead a short life of abuse and neglect. He was rescued by another GS breeder in the area and she was left with a dog with little to no muscle, both ears cauliflower from infection, a badly infected right eye that had closed, gum infection and unfortunately badly broken left from leg that was left untreated for some time. Anyway, most of the issues have been attended to and have healed thanks to the breeder that rescued him. Unfortunately, if you take a look at his left front leg in the pic, there is one nasty twist in it at the knee joint which turns outward just below the knee to his paw. He seems to be fine with it, however, I am going to get another x-ray assesment done. He is very thin right now, almost to the point where I could spit through the back of him. Thanks to this forum, I have read what one of the better dry foods are and went and purchased it last night to switch him over slowly and build him up slowly. I also need to be mindful of his weight especially with the front left leg being the way it is. Anyway, I think it will be a long haul, I am committed, we will do this. Any advice and direction you have for us would be much appreciated. |

Thank you for taking this dog in and giving him a better life.
As far as advice... my experience is limited to my 2.5 months of rescue. My Viktor was malnourished and neglected as well. I would say, don't over do trying to put weight on him too fast. Also, I found that getting us into training together has helped. That said, if you have any specific questions, just post them and the ones who really know will help. There is a lot of caring people here. Good luck and thanks again for saving this guy!!!
