Hello, I live in Pa. it has been almost four years since our dog passed and I am looking for a puppy or a dog around a year. We tried local shelters and the one dog saw my four year old as prey. We have a black lab and he is a great dog but he is not my gsd. He is great with my kids but I want a second dog. We both always had two dogs growing up and with five kids there is plenty of love in this house. My gsd was police trained. Best dog I ever had. Threw the years hubby and I have had 4 gsd's and 3 labs, 1 collie. I have been searching for a breeder. Wow what a job. I am trying to find a breeder that cares most about temperment , health, etc. I am willing to go around 2000. I don't care about all the showing dogs and line except health reasons and I don't want a puppy mill.
I care for the good hips, elbows etc. for health reasons. I would prefer a male we have had mostly males. I am not against a female though. We looked at shelters and they has issues with my kids I didn't want to chance. Like kids as prey and and issues with anxiety. That would lead to a dangerous situation. I miss having a gsd and want a dog that I can bond with again. My lab is huge chicken afraid of his shadow. I miss the aloof and confidence of my gsd. I have been looking for two weeks straight and cannot find someone in our area that has a puppy or around a year that isn't either 4000. or that is not a byb. I live in pa. and have no problem driving to even georgia or NH to get a good dog from someone who is a responsible breeder. My four year old feed our dog everyday and our dog loves him and he can take his bones, stick his hands in his food. The first night we transfered him to his big cage my four year old played in the cage with him and they dog had no adjustments issue because all my kids climbed in with him for him for ten minutes. It was so cute and funny. My dog loves to be in my sons play house with him. My four year old is great with dogs he never hurts him and is very good with him. The dog pushes his trucks across the floor to him. So I am looking for any recommended breeders with a dog available. That is a responsible breeder. |

Have you considered a rescue? I'm not from your area, but I'm certain someone on this board can recommend a reputable rescue organization in your region that can find the perfect match for you and your family. Many rescues have puppies, adolescent, adult and senior dogs to choose from...and most (if not all) are temperament tested, so you'll know that they're good with kids, cats, other dogs, etc.
We rescued for the first time a few months ago and it was one of the best experiences of our lives. The organization we went through was very thorough when pairing our family with a perfect match...and it has been wonderful ever since Beau stepped foot into our home. I doubt I'll ever buy from a breeder again...there are just too many wonderful dogs out there looking for their forever homes.

German Shepherd Rescue of Southeastern Pennsylvania
I just googled "German Shepherd Rescue + PA" and got this link to German Shepherd Rescue of South Eastern PA.
