Default NEW GSD Owner :)

Hi guys,

Recently implemented a new addition to the family - a 13 week old girl (Zoe) into our family of 3, including my wife, my 7 month old son and obviously myself.

She is lovely, however the german shepherd club is closed until Jan the 14th so we have about 2 - 3 weeks of training Zoe by ourself - im a bit nervous and at the same time excited because I want our pup to be extremley good with our son. My wife has had many dogs in the past back home in Dubai she is has lost some touch
( I myself have had a cat which was basically like a dog as far as affection went and a whippet however ive been around dogs throughout my life - always had a soft spot for them)

At the momment we also live in a small house, the backgarden is not that big however she sleeps inside and is welcome to come inside and hang inside with us as we plan for her to be in/out . She has all ready found her place to sleep, which is beside our bed or in the study when im doing work.

I have recieved some judgment from family members asking us what we were thinking getting a GSD with a newborn (, however I did alot of reading and read infact the GSD are protective of children once they know they are apart of the family. I wont lie that got be a bit nervous/upset because my son is my pride and joy however we are determined to make sure this works and take responsbility for getting her.

At the momment we leave our son in the bouncer and Zoe kind of always just always around Ariyahn ( our son ) or has a sniff, if she had a little bite i tell her ZOE, NO BITE and hold her mouth. But i can see zoe being good mates with Ariyahn as time goes by.

Our lease ends in May next year, we plan to move to a bigger house however in the mean she will need to adapt to our house -

We have lots of parks close by which is great.

I also am a stay at home dad, recently out of the army so I am able to put alot of work into Zoe & my son.

Anyway look forward to your responses and sorry for the LONG message

Respectfully,

Daniel

Welcome and congrats on Zoe! You'll have to post a picture of her. I grew up with German Shepherds and would never go without one. They are the best dogs! People who don't understand German Shepherds will say ignorant things. People fear the unknown. They only see what the media portrays about them. Similar to how people see pitbulls...which I have one of those too Don't let peoples ignorant comments get in your way of owning one of the best breeds in the world. They are EXCELLENT with children. There are some GSD's that aren't good with kids, but its most likely because they have never been around them, not because they are monsters. Any type of dog can be bad with children. Cats can be bad with kids as well. I work as a vet assistant and I will muzzle a toy poodle or jack russell way before I would muzzle a German Shepherd. I see more smaller dogs that are aggressive!
