I want to say hello and thank you for this very informative forum. I have been reading a lot of topics here because I am looking to be a proud owner of a GSD. I have owned Dobermanns and only Dobermanns. I love the Dobermann breed because of their loyalty, determination and drive. It is time to open my mind to a different breed. The only one that compares to and exceeds the Dobermann is a GSD. I have not made up my mind on a breeder but I have made up my mind on the color. Black and Red is for me.

German Show Lines, then. Did you have some breeders in mind?
I have looked at a ton of breeders and have contacted all of them. There are so many out there to choose from. I live in Florida but I will drive to Green Bay to get the right GSD. |

You shouldn't have to drive quite that far.

Hello and welcome to the board.
Yes, Black and Red are show lines. Word of advice... there is a BIG difference between the show lines and the working lines when it comes to drives, trainability, etc., before you decide, you might want to check out the differences. |

Only slightly OT: I thought working-line dogs could also come in red and black. Not as commonplace, but possible? Or am I mistaken?
In any case, congratulations on making the decision to make the plunge into the GSD world and welcome!

Hello and welcome to the forum!
My GSDs are best friends with a pair of Dobermans. They are great together.

You can get black and tan in WL, but when someone says, "Black and red" they're generally talking about that deep red with the black saddle that you get from Show Lines.
