Default 1st time GSD owner saying Hi!

Hi everyone!
My husband and I just rescued a 1 year old female GSD about a month ago. My husband grew up with a GSD mix, and I've always had Corgis.

She definitely has a TON of energy and from the looks of it not much foundation training. We've just almost gotten her over mouthing.. she still does it when we have visitors, but no longer uses my husband and I as chew toys! She is extremely excited whenever she meets someone, and we are not sure how to get her to stay calm. Ignoring her doesn't seem to work. She'll calm down, but as soon as she gets any attention she is all hyped up and mouthing them again..

We also want to get her involved with some sport, but not sure what one yet. She doesn't seem to have much drive, she is more interested in 'keep away' than 'fetch' and will plop down on the grass for a couple minutes when she is tired.. then she is up and running again!

Any advise on dealing with her energy is much appreciated. She has so much! We take her out every day for about a 3 mile walk. When we get home, she'll still go out in the back yard and run laps!

I am looking forward to reading and learning from all the experts on how to deal with her exuberance!

Thanks!

Now that is a energetic K-9...could you give Elly May some of her blood. She likes to just lay arround the house all day.

Scarlett was like that when we first got her. She has settled down considerably, although 2-3 mile walks daily are still a must.
