Default Hello, New to the site (? False pregnancy = no recall?)

Hello all, my name is Ryan and im in Northern CA and have an 11 month old girl named Aria (pics to come soon). I came because I like to read other peoples posts for helpful tips and love learning new things.

Like I said, I have an 11 month old girl who is going through a false pregnancy. I understand her hormones are probably all over the place because of this and I can really see a big change in her actions. She is not babying toys or protecting them but it seems like she lost all of her training and will not listen worth a crap. Her recall off leash was very good and still a work in progress prior to this false preg, but now, its like she never learned it and wont come at all off leash.

My question is, will this all pass once the false preg is over or do I need to jump back to square one with the training?

Sorry for such a long first post and thanks again for any help/tips on this matter. Also, if I missed this topic when I tried to search prior to posting please post the link and I apologize!

This is also considered the "teenage years" and very typical of all dogs right? I guess the false pregnancy is just throwing me off since I have never actually had to deal with one.

I was about to say....... teenage years sounds more like. What makes you think she is going through a false pregancy? Did your vet tell you this? Or is this some thing your guessing on? I mean this nicley.

Hello and welcome to the board?

What makes you think that she is going through a false pregnancy?? Just because she is not listening??

Exactly. Did the vet confirm this?

Even if they did, she's at the age we ALL start having problems. They are getting older and more independent.

What does your instructor say in dog classes? Will she listen in class and not at home?

Is she still keying in with your engagement training? click this --> Engagement - Key to Training

Upping exercise will help too.

No, Sorry I should have clarified. Her nipples started to get pretty large so after a vet visit we were able to confirm she was either pregnant or going to have a false pregnancy. There is absolutely no way possible she could be pregnant. She is now past the time frame of birthing puppies and right in the false pregnancy stage. Her nipples are starting to go decrease in size and she should be almost ready to pass this stage according to the day count (of course that varies dog to dog).

Yes, the vet did confirm this.

I recently moved from IN back to CA and have not gotten her into a training class yet but am on the lookout for one. I am in a pretty rural area so nothing is really close, let alone a dog class. But either way, thats no excuse, I NEED to get her back into one ASAP! I called the previous trainer and he basically said its just that age when they start to test boundaries and become more independent.

She is still somewhat engaged but I definitely noticed a decline recently. Its like no matter what I have she wants to kind of stroll around but she still stays close.

I will look at upping her exercise, thanks!

Just wanted to add, that when ALL my bitches go into heat their nipples get HUGE! And it's not been associated with a false pregnancy.

I'd just go with the training and exercise at this point! PLUS the engagement training.

Did you have a chance to look at that Engagement - Key to Training <---click on that

Thanks for the help!

I understand that their nipples get big and the vet was more of a check up and they wanted to run more tests regarding the possible pregnancy and thats how we confirmed it otherwise I may have had no idea.

Training, exercise and engagement it is

I did, very helpful and gave me a few new ideas on working with her.
