Default New puppy<3

Brought home our newest addition this afternoon! He turns 11 weeks old tomorrow and we named him Lance (Lancelot). We also have a 2 year old Australian Shepherd, Arthur.
Lance laid on me the 30 minute car ride home and once we got home he got right into playing! He played about 45 minutes, peed outside and now he is "dog" tired. I snapped off a few photos of him trying to sleep- as you can see the camera woke him, lol. He is a cutie!
We have a very large kennel for him near our bed (so he can see us at night) but, should I block half of it off while he is a puppy for potty training? If the kennel is too large will he just want to pee in it?
Our 2 year old aussie sleeps out with us now that he is older, is it "mean" to have the puppy in the kennel at night when he can see Arthur is out?
It has been a while since introducing a new puppy to an adult dog--- is Arthur allowed to express any sort of dominance with the new pup or do I reprimand him for any of that asap? He is very nice and wants to play with the pup but I do see a bit of him wanting to show dominance, as it is the first day of having him, and the pup is tired, I haven't even let them really play. Arthur is pretty well behaved. If you have-- how did you introduce a new puppy into another dogs life?

They are both very handsome!

I would keep the two separate most of the time, with supervised play time together.

The dominance thing is going to go both ways - once the pup is comfy and a little taller - he will try to assert himself, and things could go bad. I guess you just have to let both of them know that neither one of them is the boss - and you are.

We have Bailey and Wendy together to play, but separate for human time - ensuring Wendy bonds with us and not just with Bailey.

I don't think Arthur will care if Lance is in the bedroom and he is not - as long as that isn't where Arthur is used to sleeping.

Enjoy the addition!

Yes, if the kennel is too large he'll use it like a condo-- one bedroom, one bathroom. Block it off so it's small enough to be only bedroom.

Nope, not mean at all. It's what most of us have done.

I allowed my older dog to express dominance to the puppy. I think those first six months my puppy spent most of his time with his head in my adult dog's mouth! Puppy is a year old now and still very submissive to the older dog. In my opinion, your dogs are a pack of two and should be allowed to be have like a pack. Obviously if there are any serious issues you should step in.
