Cool Hello from Auckland, New Zealand!

Hi guys,

My name is Tony and I am 22-year-old university graduate from Auckland, New Zealand. I have spent most of my life having the pleasure of being around dogs but have gone the past seven years without owning one, yet always looking forward to the day I bring home that new companion.

Recently, my circumstances changed which will finally allow me to give a dog the environment he/she deserves. I have spent the past two weeks doing some book readings from the local library and I have just started doing online work when I came across this forum.

I look forward to learning everything I can before I bring home my new GSD and as a law student with an interest in science, deep and almost pedantic research come second nature to me and I would like to thank the entire forum community for putting up all that information on this site in the form of pictures, videos, and posts.

Thank you all and happy holidays!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have family in Texas, Arlington if I remember correctly. I haven't owned a GSD before, but my grandmum had a beautiful boy that I would take out regularly when she grew too frail to exercise him. The good thing is that the place I work at allows me to stay home and work from there on most days so I think I can give that little guy all the attention he needs I've been waiting for years until I was sure that I could provide a good, stable and loving environment for a GSD pup and I am so excited that I finally can

I'm about 25 mins north east of Arlington, Texas! Not o far away. Sounds like you have your stuff together an have waited for just the right time to ad a pup to your household. What breeders are looking at? What lines do you prefer? Are you looking to do any sports with your dog? :-)

Hi! What a small world lol. I haven't gotten to the point of deciding on a breeder, but I have a few in mind already. I plan to go out and see them maybe in the next month or so since they don't have any upcoming litters anyway. I really like the elegance of some show line GSDs that I have come across so I will probably get something similar.

As for sports, I am a very outdoors type person where I go on frequent long hikes, or spend the day out on the water. Plus I am a long distance runner at heart so I would love a GSD that can keep up with my rough and tumble lifestyle. I also will definitely attend some obedience classes when the dog is old enough since I know that GSDs love mental stimulation and I really want to pick up techniques and tips to satisfy that need.

Hi Tony!

A warm welcome from the bottom of the South Island. LOL
The Waikato GSD Club are holding shows on the 18/19th of February if you are interested in having a look.
I'm not sure exactly when the Auckland club has their next shows, but don't think it is for a while.
Sounds like you are well organised for a pup, if there is anything I can do to help you, feel free to ask away.

Cheers,
Anita
