I found this site while trying to find some training techniques for a new client of mine. He is an intact 18 month old black GSD male. Simply GORGEOUS!
He needs some manners. He is leash reactive, territorial at home, destructive when left alone, allowed to jump up on and mouth at humans, doesn't focus as readily as I'd like and seems highly distracted while on our walks. So, I have some work to do. I am gearing him up for my pack trips to the park and beach. He cannot join the pack until he is more controllable and NEUTERED. I find that unneutered males are the target of the more assertive neutered males. They just don't like the testosterone. I am currently using the Halti (I hate this thing!). I am changing him over to the Easy Walk harness and Ruff Wear Backpack with water bottles. I have read that the Y-yolk design better disperses the weight over the shoulders and not the back. The GSD is my dream dog. I greatly admire their grace, beauty, design. I plan on adopting a retired service dog in the future. But for now, I have my hands full with Duke, my client. Looking forward to getting some fantastic advice!
