Default Hey everyone, how about a shot of Jager!!!

Well, I've been reading up on this site for some time now and finally decided to post up and introduce myself and our GSD Jager. Jager comes from a blend of American show lines and Czech working lines. As you can see from his color and lack of hip angle he shows more working line traits which we were looking for.

We picked up our little boy at 5 1/2 weeks and he has been nothing short of amazing. He is now 12 weeks old and really progressing well. He has now learned sit, down, stand, focus. He heels quite well on lead, loads in his kennel on command, paws at the door to go out, and can do a sit stay for up to about 5 min now. We do training in all kinds of scenarios and distractions. He is quite food driven so keeping his attention with a treat in my hand is easy. We are working hard on socaializing, bite inihibition, and decreasing prey drive a bit. We have a cat and a 2 lb yorkie that he thinks are toys.

His coloring has been crazy to watch too. When we picked him up he was almost black with dark brown undertones. Now he has lightend up quite a bit but his coat is starting to darken again. Considering how he started out, his toe penciling and tar-heels, darkening elbows and belly, I think is going to end up a very dark sable of sorts. I'm hoping....

Hopefully with a little bit of assistance from some people on here I would like to get him into tracking.

Anyway, good to meet everyone!!!

Thanks everyone. He is definately a handfull but we love him to death. My wife and I have done rescue and have owned many dogs along the way. I have done much work with other trainers and studied a ton. Regardless of that this is my first GSD and he is training me as much as I am training him. He is the first dog that has really challenged my training efforts and kept me on my toes.

We are having a ball. So here's a funny story.... Last night we were working on some sound distractions. You know, thowing some pot lids etc to make sure he felt comfortable enough checking things out. Well it was going well until I brought out a five gallon bucket and threw it on the floor. Of course it made a big ruckus and I told him to go see what it was. He did his typical low bark and went over to investigate. After a minute I told him to bring it to me and he started to..... he bit the bucket and started to drag it and the handle fell over the back of his head. Next thing I know he is goign 100 miles an hour backwards screaming with a bucket on his head.

It was awesome!!! We eventually worked it out and was dragging it all around the house.

Welcome to you!

Jager is a very cute pup! But 5 1/2 weeks is very early to be away from mom and litter mates. Good thing you have a ton of experience with dogs so you know you need to work with his social skills to make up for what mom did not have a chance to teach him.

We knew that going into it. After speaking extensively with the breeder he actually made the comment how he would have not given him to us if we didn't have the experience we did.

The benefits, if you know what you are doing, are great. He is way ahead of the curve and there is definately a well formed bond already between him and our family.

It amazing to watch how differntly he acts with different members of the family. With me its all business with a little play mixed in. With my wife its all snuggles and lovin, and with the kids it all play. He loves and respects each of us in different ways. Pretty cool....
