Hello everyone! I was randomly browsing forums for dogs, and came across this one. I am a member of two forums for APBT owners, but never thought of joining one for German Shepherds!
Ah, getting ahead of myself! My name is Amber, and I own a 6 (almost 7) year old WGSD. The man we got him from was giving him away because he was getting married to a woman who had such severe allergies to fur that she couldn't be in the same general area as him. His name (the dog, of course) is Caesar. He came with a lot of background onformation that was a pleasant surprise for us. We have adopted before, and we know you rarely get the amount of info we got with Caesar! He was bought from his breeder at 10 weeks of age as a healthy pup. Six months later, he was confiscated by Animal Control. They found him tied with a chain to a tree in mud, covered in fleas, ticks, and very very sick. A rescue took him from the pound, who later adopted him out to a family with 7 children. A few years later, they gave him to the man who gave him to us because they just welcomed their ninth bundle of joy. The man who gave him to us had him for a couple of years. Caesar has impeccable manners, clearly has been trained very well. We have been nothing but THRILLED with our boy. He did come with some health issues-- slight arthritis, and a host of allergies. We have him in transition to raw diet (1/2 right now) and it's working wonders on him! We're going slowly with it, at the suggestion of our vet, because he is so sensitive to food changes. He is wonderful with our children (ages 6 and 4) and with our other pets. We have (in addition to Caesar) an APBT named Keira who is 10 months old, 3 cats (ages 10 years, 1 year, and 4 months) and a Ball Python. What a beautiful boy with quite a story!
How wonderful of you to take on an older dog with health issues. You must be doing right by him because he looks great in the pics you posted. Sounds like he is now in his forever home. Welcome to the site.
