Hello Everyone,
I finally joined what seemed to be a great forum. A little about my German Shepherd, Bella. Bella was born on March 1, 2011 and is about 8 months old right now. I brought her home at 8 weeks. She is a pure breed sable female GSD. This is my first GSD and i can say that she is one of the best pups i have worked with. Although she has had her temper tantrums, she is a well behaved pup. She however has been though a rough time the past few months. 1.5 Months ago she had to get exploratory surgery done to her. I was out of town for the day and I had my step mom come over at lunch to take her out, feed her, etc. I use a walking harness for training that she loves to wear on walks, but does not love to where in the house. I forgot to tell my step mom to not leave the harness on, well you probably know where it going from here. I get home 2 hours later after my step mom left and ready to greet Bella, I find two plastic belt buckles and 3 metal clips from the harness laying in here cage. SHE ATE THE ENTIRE NYLON HARNESS off her body.. I couldn't believe it.. I prayed that she will pass it through. Next morning she pooped some of it out and i was happy so I went to work. When i came home around noon, she had threw up all over in her cage.. I took her outside and she threw up 3 more times out there. She would just lay there. I rushed her to the vet and they told me she needs to stay over night.. She had to go on IV b/c she was dehydrated, had to get xrays, had to get barium done until the determined they need to do surgery. They had to cut into her stomach and 3 spots in here intestines.. They removed 4 pieces of the harness. 4 days later i was allowed to take her home and she recovered 100% in 2 weeks.. Final bill came out to 2080.00 dollars!! Thank goodness for VPI pet insurance as they refunded me 1955.00 dollars. what a nightmare this was for me and my Bella. The surgery kind of put her on the skinny side so i am still working on getting her back to normal weight. She weights 52lbs at 8 months unless that is normal? Anyway on a better note, here are some pics of Bella. 8 weeks ![]() ![]() 9 weeks ![]() 12 Weeks ![]() 5 Months ![]() ![]() 8 Months

She is adorable. I'm sorry you had such a scary and expensive experience and I thank you for sharing it. Every time I leave my pup I will double check to be sure there is nothing she can reach and I will remember Bella!
