Default Hello from Mi.

Hello everyone,

We are the Vonderau family, and have an interesting story on how we got our new Dog.

We have only been in Sault Ste Marie, MI for three months and bought a cute little house in the country outside the city limits. We love it here and the wildlife that inhabit the woods of our little property. One day as I was looking outside the window, which is my custom. I have place corn and apples to attract the deer and wild turkey for my viewing pleasure. Two weekd ago, I noticed a something moving in the wood line in the back yard area. I honesty thought it was a wolf, we do have a local pack in the area, but as I looked closer, I noticed a yellow collar. A dog, I went outside to get a closer look, and this skinny, all legs dog came bounding up to me.

I am not a dog person, and was scared, but this dog came and laid at my feet. I wanted to run away and call the authorties, and turn to go back to the house, but she followed me and gave me the saddest brown eyes. How could I say no, so I let her in. I gave her my left over breakfast and some water in a cereal bowl. She then went and fell asleep on my living room rug.

I made some calls to nieghbors and local shelters, no one knew of anyone of that had a lost dog that fit her description. I also called the local vet, which persauded me to bring the dog in for a evaluation. I had to ponder on how I was going to do this, I was kinda of intimidated of her. She seemed like a sweet girl, but how would she feel about me lifting her into the back of my Durango. I did it, and she didn't seem to mind at all. So off to the vet we go, where I found out she had worms, extremely unweight, and had an broken, infected nail on her front paw. Good news though, she had a mirco chip in her upper left shoulder, and the Vet tried to get ahold of her family, but the phone was no longer in service.. So he contacted the breeder. The vet told me that the breeder is going to the house that they gave them, and try to locate the family. Said the family was a nice family and she couldn't see them dumping the dog. Ok, I took the doggy home with all the meds and went and bought the Call of the wild dog food. The vet said he uses them on his own dogs, it would help her weight and fur loss.

My husband and kids where home by this time, and he was surprised that i still had the dog with me. He wondered why the Vet didn't keep inthe dog his kennels, and why I bought 50 bucks worth of dog food for a dog we didn't own. I have no idea, I am not a dog person I told him, which he laugh at. My girls loved Meagan as my youngest, 6 had instantly named her.

Long story short, the family had a bitter divorce and the puppy was given to different homes and family members. The Vet told us that the breeder was coming to pick her up, but wonder if we couldn't keep her.

I know nothing about owning a dog, and a German shepherd on top of that. Plus my daughter has asthma, though she didn't test positve for dogs or cats, I just had it in my mind to never have animals in the family.

Not sure if I am crazy, but I said yes, we would love to have her.. For a small fee, we payed the breeder to transfer the chip information to us, and for her to send us her information. She said the Vet really wanted us to have her baby, really talked us up to her. That willy ole vet, had this planned from the beginning I bet. It's been two weeks now, I had her spayed and she is getting healthy and we love her!

I going to need you alls help though. LOL I don't have a clue about owning a dog, but reading the information on this forum has helped me out a lot.. She pulls on the leash, so I am going to start training me and her on this soon. :0

Oh, she is a German shepherd, and that she is 7 mos old. I will post pictures as soon I figure out how to do it..

Welcome to the wonderful world of GSDs~ She is a cutie!
I was in the Soo over the summer.
There was a girl in the kids club(near the prisons) that had a pair of GSD's that were going to have pups. Wonder if that was the same breeder?
I bet there aren't many GSD's in your area.

thanks for the welcome.
I live about 40 minutes from the Kinross Prisons, I haven't seen many GSD's here either, mostly Huskies and Malamutes?. My neighbor across the road has a lab, and he comes and goes as he pleases. I live right next to 202 acreas of state woods, I wonder if someone didn't ditch her in the woods. My back yard and right side are surronded by the state forest. The woods on my left is own by a family down state, they only come up for deer season. My only other neighbor is a hay farmer across the street from me.. I am pretty isolated out here.

We have black Bears, Wolves, Moose, and Mountian Lions in the area, as the national forest, The Gogomain Swamp connects to the state land as well. Just glad she didn't get eaten.

I haven't gotten Meagan's infomation yet, I am suppose to get it Fed ex, Monday.
