Well it has now been 2 days with Sasha, the long haired GSD rescue that we have from a local animal refuge. She is 3.5 yo, stunning, and is so loveable and intelligent. All she wants to do is hang by my side around the house. Her one apparent ONLY issue is that she won't go do her business on lead. She walks on lead great. I've already been seeking out answers in the general info section. I've never had a GSD but I grew up with newfies, and then my parents bred dobies as I got older. We (wife, 7yo son, and self) had a shepherd mix pass in July after 10 plus who knows years. Sasha seems like she'll fill out the family again with a fantastic canine companion. Seems to be a great community here and I'm glad I've arrived.

Welcome!! And I can understand why you're glad you found this place...so am I! I am a newbie GSD owner too (my pup is 10 months) and this site has helped me tremendously!!!
Good luck with Sasha!! And as always, pictures are very much appreciated on this site!!

Welcome to the forum!! I had the same situation with our rescue Lexie. She would not go potty while on the leash initially. However, after a short time, it resolved itself. We figured that the former owner must have discouraged her from going potty while on the leash. So, it may just be that she is still not sure about her new environment and needs a little more time. Do you have a fenced in backyard you can let her go to to do her business? Once she goes while leashed, praise and treat her so she will learn that it is a good thing.

I'm glad that you've arrived too. So happy your family & Sasha found each other. Sorry about the shep mix you lost but glad Sasha is filling your heart & home.

Love the long coated gsds! Thanks for giving her a home. Try a very long lead and don't watch her when she needs to go. Walk her near some tall grass or bushes so she can hide a bit. Our last gsd Omy would put her head in the bushes thinking we couldn't see her- "I can't see you so you can't see me". Give Sasha some time, she'll figure it when she feels safe and secure
