Hey everyone. My name is Kim. I'm from Chesapeake, VA. I do not yet own a GSD but I will be getting one within the next few months. One of the groomers I work with has a pregnant female. The father is also a GSD (all black...he is stunning!) I am excited at the prospect of getting one, but also nervous. I want to make sure I raise the pup right. That's where I'll need your help. So I will be on here asking questions, and I hope I don't too obnoxious. Talk to everyone soon!

Welcome from Virginia Beach. Be careful locally. There is a woman in Chesapeake mass producing German Shepherds, and somehow, everyone around thinks she is ' reputable'. no titles, not a single health check anywhere, crap lines, and the dogs aren't even appealing to the eye. Not sure how she gets these people to pay so much, but I am trying to head a local warning without going " too far"

Since this is a 12 to 15 yr commitment..just make sure you do the best you can to assure the breeder you pick is going to get you the dog you want.
Great site with info is ---> Welcome to the GSD/FAQ's for the first time owner - German Shepherd Dog Forums

I'm also in Chesapeake. We rescued our GSD through Virginia German Shepherd Rescue. Can't help with the Puppy decision...

I think puppy-picking is one of the most fun activities in the world. I hope you pick up some books and magazines on the breed you like and read them thoroughly, have the crate, leash, and bowls bought, the yard fenced, and the diet selected before your child comes home. That way, you'll be a little more prepared and can ENJOY the puppy. |

Greetings from DC! That's cool that you're a groomer -- you're already used to all that hair!
Feel free to send me a personal message if you'd like advice on breeders. I did a ton of research in the DC-VA-MD area, and am happy to share. |

I work at a petstore. I work in the sales part, not the grooming part. Though, I'll be able to get discounts on grooming, dog food, and other supplies *Woot* The groomers litter was an oops litter, so she isn't trying to make a quick buck. She's gonna sell them for slightly higher than what the vet charges her.
