GSDs should be lean.

Are ribs visible or easy to feel? Has he had a vet check to make sure he's healthy?

Try to get a picture from the side and above

My one year old female has a really boney rear end. She needs to put some weight on but she is healthy and in good body condition. She just needs that padding over her hips. She's literally Fur, Skin, Bone. Nothing between. But she's also a horribly picky eater too. Our 4 1/2 month old pup is a skinny butt. Really as long as he's eating good, playing hard and sleeping when he's tired, he's on the right track. If you think there's an issue, have a vet check him out but he sounds okay. But as previously stated, post a side and above picture. More experience pup owners would be able to tell you what the deal is. my 4 1/2 month old is the youngest pup i've ever had thus far.

Sounds pretty normal to me, I'll be looking out for pics, but for the most part, my 7 month old JUST got a little padding on her rear end, her front half was fine, but her hips looked bony no matter what I did, and then one day, she started putting weight where it was needed, some dogs fill out kinda weird at first, but usually this thing takes care of itself.

i just learned how to post pictures myself. Go to your profile, along the ride hand side there should be an area where you can create or add an album. from there its pretty self explanitory. Once you add the pictures you want.... i actually have to open two windows to do this but you copy the link below the picture you want to share/post. I use the BB Code link. That should do the trick. example of what it will look like using BB Code link:

Welcome! As long as he his ribs are covered he's fine. Everyone thinks my male looks too skinny, my neighbor even called and asked if I was feeding him enough! Stosh is 8 mos and 79 lbs and his hips are just starting to build up some muscle mass. Remember it takes them 2 yrs to grow! It's important to keep them lean and slim to eliminate pressure off of their growing hips and joints. I've always fed pups 3 times a day until they're about 6 mos old, but you definitely want to avoid a pudgy puppy.
